UBD Delegation Visits Curtin University Malaysia to Advance Bilateral Collaboration

A delegation from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), led by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Hazri bin Haji Kifle, visited Curtin University Malaysia in Miri today for a collaboration meeting aimed at deepening the academic and research partnership between the two institutions.

The visit builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between UBD and Curtin University Malaysia on 7 April 2025 , when Curtin’s leadership visited UBD’s campus in Bandar Seri Begawan. Today’s engagement brought the UBD delegation to Miri, signalling a move from formal commitment to active collaboration.

The programme included presentations from both universities, substantive discussions on expanding cooperation in interdisciplinary research, regional resilience, and innovation ecosystems, as well as a tour of Curtin’s research facilities and the Sarawak BioValley Centre.

“We see strong opportunity for cooperation in interdisciplinary research, regional resilience, and innovation ecosystems, areas where our institutions can complement one another’s strengths and develop meaningful partnerships that support staff and student development, as well as broader institutional engagement.”

— Dr. Hazri bin Haji Kifle, Vice-Chancellor, Universiti Brunei Darussalam

The discussions were hosted by Professor Dr. Tuong-Thuy Vu, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor of Curtin University Malaysia, and focused on identifying concrete next steps for collaboration that would benefit both institutions and the wider Borneo region.

UBD values partnerships that are forward-looking, practical, and grounded in shared purpose, qualities that both sides indicated describe the relationship with Curtin University Malaysia.
