Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) acknowledged the achievements of its excellent students at the University Medal and Book Prize Awards Ceremony on 13th August 2026, held at the Chancellor Hall, UBD in conjunction with the 38th UBD Convocation Ceremony.
Presenting the awards was the Guest of Honour Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Mohammed Riza Dato Paduka Haji Mohammed Yunos, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications and Deputy Chairman of the UBD Council. Also attending the event were Vice-Chancellor of UBD Dr Hazri Haji Kifle, Acting Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Norarfan Haji Zainal, Ambassador-Designate Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam His Excellency Chen Shaochun, principal officers and staff, sponsors as well as award recipients’ family members.
An annual event in conjunction with the convocation ceremony, the Medal and Book Prize Awards Ceremony not only celebrates graduates and excellent students from different fields and at different levels of study but also encourages an atmosphere of healthy competition campus-wide. This would be a motivating drive to achieve academic excellence and active contribution to the community.
A total of 108 University Medals, Book Prizes, and Excellence Awards were presented to 98 recipients. In his welcoming remarks, UBD Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Haji Noor Azam Orang Kaya Maha Bijaya (OKMB) Haji Othman congratulated the recipients and expressed hope that they serve as inspiration and motivation for others.
Receiving the Vice-Chancellor’s Medal was Dayangku Nur Amal Syazana Pengiran Jamaluddin who recently graduated from a Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing). The Vice-Chancellor’s Medal is awarded based on the recipient’s academic merits, significant contributions and achievements in extracurricular activities as well as for demonstrating exemplary leadership skills.
The University Silver Medals are presented to the best final year student from each Bachelor Degree. This year’s six Silver Medalists are Dayangku Siti Nur Ameerah Nasibah Pengiran Indera Jaya (Bachelor of Arts), Farid Said Mohammed (Bachelor of Science), Seline Phang Min Sing (Bachelor of Business), Chloe Lai Xhue Yiing (Bachelor of Health Science), Ho Jun Ang (Bachelor of Engineering), and Awangku Abdul Afif Johnis Pengiran Abdul Aziz (Bachelor of Digital Science).
Amongst the recipients of the University Book Prizes, 12 students and 79 students from Master and Bachelor Degree programmes respectively received the prestigious award for their outstanding performance. In addition, Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd presented Excellence Awards to three First Class Degree Honours recipients in the fields of Chemical and Process Engineering, and General Engineering With Concentration in Energy Systems.
During the ceremony, graduates Goh Fui Mien, Chong Zi Wei, and Mohammad Azeerul Faizz Rabu received the Hengyi Special Mention Award. Meanwhile, His Excellency Chen Shaochun presented the Chinese Ambassador Award for Mandarin Language students: Siti Rusdina Fitriyah Mohd Reduan, Duncan Hoh Li Fan, Meissalessah Alihan, Ummi Nasuha Mohamad Azeni, and Nur Qistina Bujang.
