The Office of Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Sustainability (OAVCRIS) in UBD seeks applications for one position of a full-time Research Assistant on “Research Collaboration and Mobility Coordinator”, starting from 1 June 2025. The work is on a contract basis for 12 months. The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate basic skills and knowledge in the administration and management of research grants and in the coordination of visiting schemes, policy development, and research partnerships. The role of the Research Assistant includes mostly administrative work on the research matters of our Office, as well as report writing.


Minimum requirements

The candidates should:

  • hold at least a Master’s Degree in Science or Computer Science or Engineering or Business or Economics or Arts
  • have an excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • have an excellent knowledge of Notion and database tools
  • demonstrate an excellent knowledge of SharePoint and Office 365
  • have an excellent knowledge of English language
  • be Brunei citizens or permanent residents

Desirable qualifications

It is advantageous for the successful candidate to have: a) the ability to interpret data, b) to maintain websites, c) skills in report writing, d) excellent communication skills and e) the ability to work independently and in Teams.


Job Description

  • Create and maintain Notion databases.
  • To assist in developing, streamlining and improving work processes by implementing the use of IT.
  • Coordinate and administer all aspects of Visiting Schemes for international research staff and national/international adjunct staff, including application processing, documentation, and onboarding.
  • Support the development, implementation, and review of policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to research collaboration, staff mobility, and associated research activities.
  • Liaise with Academic Departments, international partners, and administrative units to facilitate and strengthen research collaboration and staff mobility agreements.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases of visiting, adjunct, and collaborative research staff, tracking mobility activities and outputs.
  • Collect, manage, and analyse statistical data related to research collaboration and staff mobility.
  • Assist in planning and organising trainings/workshops/events related to OAVCRIS
  • Preparation of FIN 2 forms, procurement documentation and other research-related documents for research projects
  • Prepare regular and ad-hoc reports for management and stakeholders in the OAVCRIS
  • Perform any other duties and tasks as directed by the Director of Research and the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Research)

Payment rates per day (for a maximum of 22 working days in a month):

  • Master holders: BND 127.70
  • PhD holders: BND 140.60
