Part-time MSc-level Research Assistant

The Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research seeks to hire one part-time MSc-level Research Assistant for a period of four (4) months starting from 1^st September 2025 to 31^st December 2025.

The Role

We seek candidates with knowledge on tropical forest ecology and tree diversity, significant experience in conducting relevant fieldwork in Brunei’s peat swamp forests, and strong commitment to research.

Minimum requirements:

1. Brunei Citizen.
2. MSc in Biology (or relevant field).
3. Significant experience with ecological or botanical fieldwork in Brunei’s peat swamp forests.
4. Significant experience in setting up forest plots, conducting tree censuses, herbarium work and taxonomic identification of tropical trees.
5. Ability to conduct statistical analysis using the R software and to write scientific papers. Evidence of publications is an advantage.
6. Experience with research grant management, administrative processes, and permit applications.
7. Knowledge and experience with first aid, especially in wilderness first aid, is an advantage.
8. Flexible working schedule and own transport is required.
