The Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research seeks to hire a part-time BSc-level Research Assistant for twelve (12) months, starting from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2027.
The Role
We seek candidates with knowledge on tropical forest ecology and biodiversity, experience in conducting fieldwork, herbarium work and flora taxonomic identification, and strong commitment to research.
Minimum requirements:
1. Brunei Citizen.
2. Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Biodiversity, Botany or related areas.
3. Significant experience with ecological or botanical fieldwork in Brunei’s forests, and ecological data handling and analysis.
4. Significant experience with herbarium work, including knowledge and verifiable skills on the preparation of plant voucher specimens and plant databases, and taxonomic identification of tropical flora.
5. Experience with research grant management, administrative processes, and permit applications.
6. Experience with research projects at the Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research and/or the UBD Botanical Research Centre is an advantage.
7. Evidence of publication track record, including co-authorship, is an advantage.
8. Flexible working schedule and own transport is required.
