Advertisement for TWO Research Assistant positions in IBER

Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research (IBER) is conducting research on biodiversity genomics and medicinal plants in Brunei Darussalam, and seeks to hire TWO Research Assistants as below:

  1. One Research Assistant to work for 20 days a month for a period of 6 months from October 2025 to March 2026.
  2. One Research Assistant to work for 11 days a month for a period of 7 months from September 2025 to March 2026.

The Role

The Research Assistant is expected to conduct fieldwork, lab work, interviews and literature searches. The Research Assistant is also responsible for procurement, data management, data analysis, maintaining files and other duties that may be assigned.


Minimum requirements:

  1. Applicants should possess a Master of Science degree in Biological Sciences (or related field).
  2. Have experience in conducting fieldwork in the forests of Brunei Darussalam.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills both in English and Malay languages.
  4. Possess a valid driving license and own transportation.
  5. Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  6. For Research Assistant 2, the applicant should demonstrate the ability to conduct activities related to natural products and herbal research, carrying out bioassays, handling and carrying out procedures on experimental animals.
