In a concerted effort to chart a future-forward path, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) recently hosted a series of under the theme “Futuring Together,” focused on the new core organisational values encapsulated in the acronym LEAD: Learner first, Elevate, Agent of Change, and One UBD.
Two workshops, conducted in May and June 2023, saw active participation from the senior management team, principal officers and middle management officers, across all levels of the university.
Elucidating the “Futuring Together” motto, the workshops were facilitated by the Director of Strategy, Development and Institutional Advancement (SeDIA) Lim Sei Guan and his team, collaborating with Dean of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE) Professor Dr Haji Noor Azam Haji Othman. With a primary goal of fostering a collective understanding and agreement on the core values that align with UBD’s mission and vision, the sessions were designed to stimulate strategic thinking and collaboration among the university’s leadership.
Each workshop features dynamic group activities, including brainstorming and presentations, where participants explore and discuss various values. This process facilitates a better understanding of the defined organisational values and their importance in supporting UBD’s vision and shaping the university’s culture.
The workshops concluded with a summary session where the facilitators expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the participants for their active engagement and valuable contributions. The university core values are an integral part of UBD’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the university’s vision for a collaborative and innovative future. It is, therefore, imperative that after gaining a better understanding of UBD values, these values are cascaded and communicated to every staff member, student, and stakeholder.
As part of the ongoing communication process, SeDIA conducted a workshop for the UBD Library on June 7, 2023. More than 40 library staff attended the workshop. This initiative represents a significant stride towards embedding the values of collaboration, innovation, and strategic foresight within UBD, reinforcing the university’s commitment to thriving in an ever-evolving educational landscape.
