Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) welcomed 950 new students for the August intake of the 2023/2024 academic year during Freshers Week which began on 24th July 2023 at Chancellor Hall, UBD.
Out of the total number enrolled to UBD for this intake, there are 40 PhD, 192 Masters, and 593 Bachelors and 125 Unibridge students.
This year’s Freshers Week will run until 28th July 2023 and it aims to introduce newly enrolled students to the relevant matters of their studies and formally welcome them to university life. Freshers Week is organised by the Student Affairs Section (SAS) with support from the Student Representative Council (SRC) and volunteers.
Freshers Week is an event where new students are briefed on important matters related to life in university and what UBD has to offer. New students will also be set to know more about UBD and modules offered as they will be introduced to the programme leaders of their respective faculties as well as their faculty members. The students will also be briefed on course registrations for their first semester, Discovery Year programme as well as the extra-curricular activities that are offered in UBD. The PMUBD Showcase will also begin on the same day. A motivational religious talk, Bicara Ulum Ad-din, will also be delivered and it will not only be beneficial to Muslim students, but to non-Muslims as well.
The Freshers Week kicked off with the Vice-Chancellor’s Special Address and Student Oath Taking ceremony which was held at the Main Hall, Chancellor Hall, UBD. The Vice Chancellor’s address was delivered by the Vice Chancellor of UBD and Guest of Honour Dr Hazri Haji Kifle.
Closing Freshers Week were morning activities which started with the recitation of Surah Yaasin, Doa Kesyukuran, Talaqqi Al-Quran session as well as Tadabbur Al-Quran. The new students will also be given tours of the UBD campus and library while officially marking the start of the new semester on 31st July 2023.
