Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) collaborated with the High Commission of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to launch the Bangladesh Day @ UBD on 27th September 2023 at the Institute of Leadership, Innovation and Advancement, UBD.
Her Excellency Nahida Rahman Shumona, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam delivered the welcoming remarks, followed by an opening remarks by Dr Joyce Teo Siew Yean, Assistant Vice Chancellor (Global Affairs). In her remarks, Dr Joyce Teo shared that, “Let us emphasise the significance of strengthening academic partnerships. Through the support from the High Commission of Bangladesh in Brunei Darussalam, we hope to strengthen our collaborations with more educational institutions, organisations, and industries in Bangladesh. The partnerships like these will pave the way for knowledge sharing, research collaborations, and joint initiatives that will enrich our institutions. By fostering these partnerships, we will not only expand our academic horizons but also create sustainable pathways for mutual growth.”
The event also included a book donation ceremony from Bangladesh High Commission to UBD and a Special Talk by Yang Mulia Puan Norazlianah binti Haji Ibrahim, Former Brunei Ambassador to Timor Leste. Present at the ceremony were members of the Diplomatic Corp, UBD principal officers, UBD students, Bangladesh community in Brunei and members of the public.
The ceremony concluded with guests touring the Bangladesh Cultural Exhibition consisting of Bangladeshi cultural paintings, artefacts and national costumes, which has enabled guests to learn more about the distinctive culture of Bangladesh and the common grounds between Brunei Darussalam and Bangladesh.
In her speech Her Excellency the High Commissioner has shared that the Bangladesh government places a high priority on education and believes that it can transform lives, communities and nations. She also concluded that together Brunei and Bangladesh can shape a better future through power of education and understanding.
There are 23 students from Bangladesh currently are in UBD pursuing their graduate education.
