Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) honoured the achievements of its excellent students at the University Medal and Book Prize Awards Ceremony on 15th August 2024, held at the Chancellor Hall, UBD in conjunction with the recent 36th UBD Convocation Ceremony.
Presenting the awards was the Guest of Honour Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) and Deputy Chairman of the UBD Council. Also attending the event were Vice-Chancellor of UBD Dr Hazri Haji Kifle, principal officers and staff, sponsors as well as award recipients’ family members.
An annual event in conjunction with the convocation ceremony, the Medal and Book Prize Awards Ceremony not only celebrates graduates and excellent students from different fields and at different levels of study but also encourages an atmosphere of healthy competition campus-wide. This would be a motivating drive to achieve academic excellence and active contribution to the community.
A total of 115 University Medals, Book Prizes, and Excellence Awards were presented to 103 recipients. Receiving the Vice-Chancellor’s Medal was Nur Amal Batrisyia @ Syasya Mohamad who recently graduated from a Bachelor of Business (Business Administration). The Vice-Chancellor’s Medal is awarded based on the recipient’s academic merits, significant contributions and achievements in extracurricular activities as well as for demonstrating exemplary leadership skills.
The University Silver Medals are presented to the best final year student from each Bachelor Degree. This year’s six Silver Medalists are Lim Sye Wen (Bachelor of Arts in Design and Creative Industries), Mohamad Nur-Hafizuddin Abdullah Mohamad Norajame (Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences), Nor Fatin Wafiqah Haji Noralimen (Bachelor of Business in Economics), Damia Hazimah Muhammad Asnawi (Bachelor of Health Science in Midwifery), Siti Nursarah Julhijjal (Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical and Process Engineering) and Muhammad Luqman Mohd Jaffari (Bachelor of Digital Science in Computer Science).
Amongst the recipients of the University Book Prizes, 13 students and 68 students from Master’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree programmes respectively received the prestigious award for their outstanding performance. In addition, Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd presented Excellence Awards to 13 First Class Degree Honours recipients in the field of Chemical and Process Engineering, Mathematics, Chemistry and Applied Physics.
This year, the Chinese Ambassador Award was presented to six students. Lei Jian Ting, Anis Majidah Haji Azamain, Ak Mohammad Azamuddin Pg Mohd Hardy, and Teo Kai Lee received the award for Chemical and Process Engineering. Meanwhile Seri Nur Adriana Abdullah Chan @ Chan Xiao Yen, and Chang Ming Hui received the award for Mandarin Language.
