Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) held the Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L) Open Day and Lifelong Learning Festival 2024 on 6th November, reinforcing UBD’s commitment to lifelong education. Organised in collaboration with the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE), Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences (PAPRSB IHS), Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), and the Institute of Leadership, Innovation, and Advancement (ILIA), the event aligns with Brunei Vision 2035 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This year’s festival focused on lifelong learning’s impact, highlighting its role in supporting sustainability and inclusivity. International speakers from UNITEN Malaysia, Kagawa University in Japan, Mahidol University, and Burapha University in Thailand contributed to the discussions, bringing perspectives on lifelong learning’s importance globally. A key focus of the C3L Open Day was UBD’s new micro-credentials and micro-master programs, aimed at addressing the changing needs of society and the workforce.
The event also included the launch of the new C3L website and the Open Learning platform. These digital platforms were developed to extend UBD’s lifelong learning programs and micro-credentials to audiences locally and internationally, strengthening UBD’s involvement in the global educational landscape.
In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of UBD noted the alignment of these initiatives with both national and global goals, stating, “Our commitment to lifelong learning is closely aligned with Brunei Vision 2035’s goal of cultivating an educated, highly skilled, and accomplished populace, and with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.”
The festival’s agenda included educational service presentations, technology showcases, and workshops supporting sustainable development. Key events included a lecture on micro-credentials, a workshop titled Collaborating for Change – Sustainable Projects in Action, business meetings, exhibitions, discussions, a public lecture, and an awards ceremony for the best micro-credential, all designed to promote educational advancement and social responsibility.
Looking ahead, UBD remains committed to lifelong learning as a contributor to sustainable national development, fostering a learning environment that integrates education and innovation to help individuals prepare for future challenges.
UBD expresses appreciation to the 200 participants and stakeholders who contributed to the event. Through collaborative efforts, UBD aims to realize the potential of lifelong learning in communities, supporting progress through education.
