UBDSBE Empowers Future Leaders through Summer Leadership Programme

The School of Business and Economics at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBDSBE) is pleased to announce the successful completion of its Summer Leadership Programme (SLP) 2025, held from 1st July to 6th July 2025. This flagship initiative brought together 35 international and local participants from various higher education institutions for a transformative week of leadership development, cross-cultural collaboration, and experiential learning.

In her welcoming remarks, Dr Wardah Azimah Haji Sumardi, newly appointed Deputy Dean, highlighted the school’s strategic direction:

“Since 2023, we have become an AACSB-accredited school. AACSB, which stands for the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, is the world’s most prestigious business school accreditation body. As an AACSB-accredited school, we remain steadfast in our mission: to produce future leaders who are not only innovative but also socially responsible. This International Summer Leadership Programme is one of our flagship initiatives designed to bring this mission to life.”

The programme featured a comprehensive lineup of sessions led by both academic staff and industry partners, covering a wide spectrum of leadership and societal themes. Participants explored Leading Self and Others and Solving Problems and Making Decisions through neuroscience-informed leadership workshops by Dr Rizki Edmi Edison, and deepened their understanding of Entrepreneurship and Leadership through practical sessions led by Dr Annie Dayani Ahad Abdullah. They also engaged in a Sustainability Commitment workshop with Dr Wardah Hakimah Haji Sumardi, and developed crisis leadership skills in Lead Through the Storm: Mastering Leadership Through Crisis facilitated by Mr Yusrein Hady Ghani of Hibiscus Brunei.

Experiential learning was further enriched through a Design Thinking and Innovation workshop by Mr Mohamad Fadhilullah Tudun of Brunei Innovation Lab, student-led collaborative activities using the TetraMap and Four Player Model frameworks, and a full-day Team-Building and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity at Peliunan Park.

Beyond the classroom, participants embarked on cultural excursions to some of Brunei’s most iconic landmarks, including the historic Water Village and the majestic Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque—gaining meaningful insights into the nation’s heritage. A visit to the Brunei Innovation Lab allowed them to engage with the country’s innovation ecosystem. The programme culminated in a lively Appreciation Dinner, where participants showcased their national attire and cultural pride through performances and cross-cultural exchanges—celebrating unity in diversity.

The programme reflects UBDSBE’s commitment to nurturing ethical, innovative, and socially responsible leaders through meaningful academic and industry engagement. The Summer Leadership Programme 2025 not only promotes global leadership and entrepreneurial mindsets but also provides a platform for young leaders to connect across borders, build lifelong networks, and deepen their understanding of Brunei’s development landscape.
