The Malay Language, Linguistics and Literature Programme (MLLLP) at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) is conducting research on the Language and Social Solidarity of the Malay Community in Australia. This study explores language-related dynamics in the reconstruction of identity and solidarity, including the selection of language, linguistic forms, and communication strategies. We are seeking to hire one part-time Research Assistant for a period of 3 months, starting 1st August 2025.
The Role
We are seeking candidates with a solid understanding and skillset to assist in academic research, specifically in Malay Language and Linguistics Studies. The candidate must be available to work up to 12 days, spread over a three-month research period. Responsibilities will include tasks such as conducting literature reviews, transcribing data from audio and video recordings in a timely manner, coding data for qualitative analysis, referencing and proofreading, attending planning and training sessions on data coding, self-studying qualitative research software, and other research-related duties as assigned by the researcher.
Minimum Requirements:
- Brunei citizen or permanent resident.
- A degree (undergraduate or higher) in Malay Language, Linguistics and/or Literature.
- Strong qualitative research skills with the ability to organize materials effectively.
- Computer Literate with a willingness to learn quantitative and qualitative data analysis tools.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Fluent in Malay (both Brunei and Standard Malay) and English.
- Excellent language awareness and strong written and spoken communication skills.
