UBD Welcomes 246 Students for January Intake 2023/2024

Monday 2nd January 2024, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) announces the enrollment of 246 new students for the January Intake of the 2023/2024 academic year.

In his address for the UBD Freshers Week intake session 2023/2024, the Vice Chancellor Dr. Hazri Haji Kifle highlighted UBD’s guiding principles encapsulated in the motto ‘Futuring Together.’ “Futuring” emphasises proactive and preemptive approaches, focusing on progress, innovation, and a growth mindset. “Together” signifies unity within the University and with the nation, aiming to create a collaborative community fostering a conducive learning environment. This environment empowers individuals to reach their potential, encouraging inventive approaches for a better future.

Symbolizing UBD’s commitment as a leading university, the Vice Chancellor introduced UBD’s core values “LEAD”. ‘Learner’s First’ prioritises each student’s unique needs and well-being, creating a personalised, inclusive and supportive learning environment to ensure every learner’s success and satisfaction at UBD. ‘Elevate’ signifies a dedication to raising standards and pursuing excellence, while ‘Agent of Change’ represents UBD’s commitment to creating positive impact and meaningful transformations. ‘One UBD’ embodies unity and collaboration, fostering a conducive learning environment.

The Vice Chancellor has shared UBD’s recent global recognitions, including its placement within the top 400 in the QS World University Ranking 2024 and top 100 in Asia. Additionally, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking 2024, UBD is positioned within the top 401-500 globally, with specific subject rankings. In the QS Sustainability Ranking 2024, UBD secured the 629th position worldwide, the 162nd position in Asia, and held the top spot in Brunei Darussalam. These achievements reaffirm UBD’s commitment to academic excellence, research, and sustainability

Freshers Week this year will be held for 4 days with some programmes organised that aims to introduce new students to important aspects of life as a student at UBD. Programme leaders of respective faculties will brief the new students on the modules offered, as well as course registrations in preparation for the first semester, Discovery Year programme as well as extra-curricular activities offered in UBD.

Spiritual Enlightment activities and Quranic Journey lead by the religious officers will also set forth. In addition, they will also be introduced to the GenNext programme, registration and examinations in UBD. New students will also participate in sports and creative team building activities.
