Examination & Registration Office

The Examination and Registration (EXR) Office manages the examination and registration of all students. It is responsible for keeping all exam records (past and present) and ensuring their integrity. The EXR is the secretary of the University. Examination Board in which it provides assistance in the development of, revisions to, such policies and procedures in relation to Examination and Registration. The EXR Office is responsible for the issuance of official academic transcripts and degree scrolls.

It also facilitates: transfer of major or degree and their credit transfer, leave of absence, and examination of thesis/dissertation.

Registration

All students in full-time or part-time programmes are required to register as a student in the University at the beginning of each semester, for the whole period of their candidature, whether or not they also register for any individual modules each semester, and thus maintain an active student status. Registration is done online in the GenNEXT Information System (GIS).

A student who fails to register as a student of the University before the final registration date each semester (normally three weeks after the start of the semester) shall be assumed to have withdrawn from the University and their candidature will be terminated with effect from the start of that semester.

The normal period of registration is the first three (3) weeks at the start of the semester (every August and January). Students register their modules in their respective faculties during the period determined; as announced by the EXR Office via email and noticeboard.

Students need to ensure that the modules that they are registered to do not have any class timetable or exam timetable clash.

Students will not be allowed to sit for the semester examinations if they do not register for their modules.

Examination

All students must sit for the exam (unless barred) for the all the modules that they are registered to (excluding 100% coursework modules). Examination is normally for 2 weeks of the end of each semester; in April/May and November/ December.

The venue for examination is normally held in the Chancellor Hall and in the respective faculties (for modules with special requirements).

Examination results are normally published 2 weeks after the last day of the exam period; announced via email and noticeboard.

A student may appeal in writing to the Registrar & Secretary to have the examination scripts of one of more modules reviewed provided that the appeal reaches the Registrar and Secretary within three working days from the date of release of the official results. A fee shall be charged for each appeal, in respect of each module for which a review is sought. The fee shall be payable in advance and shall accompany the appeal.
